Top 3 reasons why even IT Departments need IT Help

Written by Jeff Gaines

Do IT Managers get to take vacations? Yes.

Does even the perfect IT hire come with every skill or certification necessary to fully support your growing business? No.

Can an IT Manager work 24/7/365?  No.

Can your IT staff burn out?  Absolutely.

Can your IT staff execute well on Apple and Microsoft? Possibly.

Does your IT staff have the right blend of strategic thinking, industry knowledge, and tactical execution? Probably not.

A case for outsourcing IT as a way to supplement Internal IT Teams

While the answers to the questions above may seem obvious, they are often not considered by business leaders during quarterly or annual planning. The resulting effect, quite often, is that businesses make do with the negative impacts of not addressing the underlying problems of each of these considerations. Quite often, even the best IT Managers are underwater, having too many tasks for a single person, to wide of a job description to be effective, or too wide and varied of device types and technology solutions to effectively manage. Additionally, the workforce may have significant delays while waiting for the IT Manager to ‘free up’ and get to their tickets, wasting valuable time. Finally, Management’s “Information Technology WIshlist” never gets handled, leading to a lack of progress.

What are business owners to do? Hire another IT Manager? Hire a CIO? Force staff into a single device standard (against their wishes)? Delay critical IT projects for another quarter or another year?

There must be better ways…

Typically, Interlaced helps supplement internal IT in three ways:

  1. Outsourcing Help Desk support – freeing up internal resources to work on critical applications in support of their teams and goals. Typically, Interlaced supports either divisions or subsidiaries in this fashion
  2. Outsourcing support for complex and specific applications – allowing companies to avoid hiring for specific expertise, avoid spending time investigating new tools, and avoid training staff on new methods/applications/frameworks. Commonly, clients ask Interlace to implement, maintain, and update Mobile Device Management solutions, such as Jamf or Addigy, on their behalf.
  3. Providing expertise to help build an IT Strategy – for many businesses, IT can be more than a necessary cost, it can also be core to their business models. Having an expert on your bench can be critical when developing new ways to go to market, supporting your devices and technology already in the market, and helping your customers to be more successful with your technology.
